Filter spam with Spam Filters

Turn on spam filtering for your mailboxes and move likely spam out of your inbox, using cPanel.

Spam Filters scores each incoming message on how spam-like it looks and can move the worst of it out of your inbox. Open cPanel from your client area (see Log in to cPanel if you need directions), then follow the steps below.

Turn on spam filtering

  1. In cPanel, find the Email section and select Spam Filters.

You can also type "Spam Filters" into the cPanel search box.

  2. Turn on Process New Emails and Mark them as Spam.

Each incoming message is now checked and given a spam score.

  3. Turn on Move New Spam to a Separate Folder (Spam Box).

Messages that score as spam go to a separate spam folder instead of your inbox, where you can still check them.

There is nothing to save: each setting takes effect as you switch it on. From now on, check the spam folder in webmail or your mail app every so often, in case a real message was moved there by mistake.

Adjust how strict the filter is

To make filtering catch more or less, select Spam Threshold Score to open Adjust Spam Threshold Score. A lower score is stricter and catches more spam, but risks catching the odd real message; a higher score is more relaxed. Choose a value (or Custom to type your own), then select Update Scoring Options.

Delete spam automatically

If you would rather the clearest spam never reach you at all, turn on Automatically Delete New Spam (Auto-Delete) and use Configure Auto-Delete Settings to set the Auto-Delete Threshold Score. Auto-deleted mail cannot be recovered, so keep the threshold high, and consider leaving Spam Box on instead if you would rather review before anything is gone.

Always allow or always block a sender

To make sure a trusted sender is never treated as spam, select Edit Spam Whitelist Settings and add their address. To always mark a sender as spam, select Edit Spam Blacklist Settings and add theirs. Both let you use * to match a whole domain, for example *@example.com.
