Frequently Asked Questions

Web hosting is where your website is stored. A website is a collection of files that live on a server connected to the internet, viewable through a web browser. When someone visits your domain, those files are displayed in their browser as your website. Combine the files, the hosting server and a correctly-pointed domain, and you have everything a website needs to be online.
Shared web hosting means one server hosts multiple accounts. It is the most common and most cost-effective way to host a website. On our servers, each account runs inside its own CloudLinux resource limits, so the other sites on the same machine don’t affect yours.
In order to have a website live on the internet, you will need both web hosting and a domain name. Both of these things can (and do) exist independent of each other, though it is generally considered universal to employ both in order to have an actual website. Metaphorically, let’s say you want to invite people to a party (your website). Your party is at a location, such as your house or apartment (web hosting). In order for people to know how to get to the specific location, you must provide them with an address (domain name). So, web hosting is the actual server space where your website files live, and a domain name is the address visitors need in order to view these files as your website. You can have a domain without a website, and a website without a domain, but for a working website that people can visit, you need both.
You can transfer your existing website, and your existing domain registration(s), to us. To prevent any downtime on a live website, the order of operations is: create a new account, transfer a copy of your website files to the new server, update the DNS of any domain(s) to point to the new server, wait 24 hours and verify everything loads from the new server, cancel the old hosting account, initiate the domain registration transfer, then verify the domain registration transfer completed. If you would like, we can walk through it with you.
Moving a website & all associated data from any Linux platform does not pose an issue. We would just need the relevant access details.
DV (Domain Validation) SSL certificates are supplied. OV (Organisation Validation) and EV (Extended Validation) certificates can be purchased from the control panel.
By default all backup data is stored in encrypted locations within the European Union. Backups run daily and are retained for 14 days, so you can restore data from any point in that window.
From your cPanel you can choose between the regular backups described above, client-side encryption where we keep a record of the encryption keys (we can assist if a key is lost), client-side encryption where only you hold the keys (we cannot assist if a key is lost), or no backups at all.
Backups are taken as encrypted incremental snapshots. Restorations can be granular, down to individual files, or a full account restoration.
Our hosting servers are located in Johannesburg, South Africa.
