Set up two-factor authentication for cPanel

Add a second layer of protection to your cPanel login with an authenticator app.

Two-factor authentication (2FA) asks for a short code from your phone in addition to your password, so your cPanel account stays protected even if your password is exposed. This guide assumes you are already logged in to cPanel.

Before you start

Install an authenticator app on your phone. Any standard app works, for example Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy. The app generates a 6-digit code that changes every 30 seconds.

Turn on 2FA

  1. In cPanel, find the Security section and select Two-Factor Authentication.

You can also type "Two-Factor Authentication" into the cPanel search box.

  2. Select Set Up Two-Factor Authentication.

  3. In Step 1, open your authenticator app and scan the QR code shown.

If you cannot scan it, enter the account code shown on the page into the app by hand.

  4. Your app now shows a 6-digit code. Enter that code in Step 2 and select Configure Two-Factor Authentication.

2FA is now active on your cPanel account. From now on you will enter a code from your authenticator app each time you log in.
