Set up an email autoresponder
Send an automatic reply, such as an out-of-office message, to everyone who emails an address.
An autoresponder replies on its own to anyone who writes to an address, which is handy for letting people know you are away or that an inbox is no longer watched. Open cPanel from your client area (see Log in to cPanel if you need directions), then follow the steps below.
Add an autoresponder
-
In cPanel, find the Email section and select Autoresponders.
You can also type "Autoresponders" into the cPanel search box.
-
Select Add Autoresponder.
-
In the Email box, enter the address that should send the automatic reply, and choose its domain from the menu.
-
In Interval, enter how many hours to wait before replying again to the same sender.
For an out-of-office message, 24 works well, so someone who writes several times is not answered on every message.
-
Fill in From (the name the reply comes from), Subject, and Body (your message).
Leave the HTML checkbox off for a plain-text reply, or tick it if your message uses HTML formatting.
-
Under Start, choose Immediately, or Custom to set a date and time; under Stop, choose Never, or Custom to set an end date.
For time away, set Custom on both to your first and last day out, and the replies switch themselves on and off.
-
Select Create.
The address now replies automatically to incoming mail for the period you set. You can add only one autoresponder per address. To change the message or turn it off sooner, return to the Autoresponders page and select Edit or Delete next to it.
You can leave Character Set on its default, utf-8, which handles ordinary text and everyday punctuation.
