Add a domain or subdomain

cPanel adds all of these from the same screen, so the steps below cover whichever you need:

• A subdomain, which is a section of your site with its own address, such as shop.example.co.za.
• Another domain you have registered, hosting its own separate website on the same account.
• A second address for your existing site, so a domain like example.com shows the same website as example.co.za.

Open cPanel from your client area (see Log in to cPanel if you need directions), then follow the steps below.

1. In cPanel, find the Domains section and select Domains.

   You can also type "Domains" into the cPanel search box.

2. Select Create a New Domain.

3. Leave Registered Domain selected.

   The other option, Temporary Domain, is only for previewing a site before you have a domain name of your own.

4. In the Domain box, type the full address you want to add.

   For a subdomain, type it in front of your existing domain, like shop.example.co.za. For a domain you have registered, type the domain on its own, like example.com.

5. Choose whether the new address shows your existing site or has its own files.

   Leave Share document root selected for the new address to show the same site as your existing domain. Deselect it to give the new address its own folder, which cPanel fills in for you. Choose carefully: cPanel marks this setting as permanent, so changing it later means removing the domain and adding it again.

6. Select Submit.

Remove a domain or subdomain

Everything you have added is listed on the same Domains page. To remove one, select Manage next to it, then select Remove Domain and confirm with Yes, remove this domain. This takes the address offline but leaves its folder and files on the server, so nothing you uploaded is deleted.
